Dunedin Palace
Dunedin Palace is my very first Western-style design (May 2015) with high degree of completion. The initial idea of the appearance was stimulated by an existing building —— Dunedin Train Station in New Zealand. Therefore, I let this design to inherit the name to state where the inspiration came from and to show my respect. Besides, I used 'Dunedin' as the name of a series of my later designs to emphasis the importance of this one as the starting point of my architectural-designing journey.
As the first try of designing a building, I think it is acceptable to take out elements from existing creatures to produce a new artefact, because most beginners starts with getting through those have been explored previously to try and eventually create their own style if gifted and lucky enough. Fortunately, I feel like I no longer need to draw inspirations from existing buildings in my designs after this one, it is like a key which unlocked my door.
My origin was to design a European palace located at the end of a narrow path which is surrounded by trees in an inland country. The section built and rendered is the main part of the design where the palace and a small chapel fit in. For the interior, I put a piano in the middle and used keys of the piano to be the majority of the floor, so that people walking inside the palace can feel more interaction especially when someone is playing the piano.
